How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light do we see light.
(Psalm 36:7-9 ESV)
“In your light do we see light” are powerful and revealing words. The person who is living apart from Christ is spiritually blind. In this state the cross of Christ and his message of redemption is utter foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:18.) Jesus is the light of the world that illumines our path through the Scripture. God’s light reveals those things that have been hidden from the wise of this present age. The Holy Spirit reveals Jesus, and Jesus shows us the Father. The nature of God is triune; one God in three persons. We must have illumination from the Spirit to see this truth in the Bible.
Jesus still opens both physically and spiritually, blind eyes today. And He still leads us like a Shepherd leading his sheep in a very dark world. Jesus is not some far away mythical deity who refuses to interact with his creation. He reveals himself in greater measure to those who diligently seek him. There have been many false teachers, and “messiahs”throughout the ages, but only Jesus leads us to a place of internal rest and peace.
While sound doctrine is essential in knowing God, he is also a relational being, who desires to share his life with us. God is pure light and brings us into his spiritual house, so that we can experience fellowship with him, and drink from the river of his delights. This unspeakable joy and glory is only found in the presence of the God who made us, and reveals himself to us.
